"When the synthetic medicines were found to provide as much headache and risk as much as relief, man turned back to the ancient medical science to seek answers to modern afflictions as well as the age old afflictions that have affected people." "All you have to do is find a product that will best suit your needs."

Male Menopause

Male Menopause

Men go through aging male syndrome (AMS) between the ages of 35 and 65 when their hormone levels (especially testosterone) decline. Testosterone is a hormone that helps maintain sex drive, sperm production, pubic and body hair, muscle, and bone. Testosterone levels decrease over time. This decline is normal in healthy males as they age. Unlike women who lose their fertility (ability to get pregnant) when they reach menopause, men do not lose their fertility. All men have different experiences some men's hormone levels go down more than others, and some have more symptoms than other men.

A decline in testosterone can affect a man's body. AMS has many signs:

* Feeling fat/weight gain
* Problems sleeping
* Less interest in sex
* Feeling irritable or angry
* Erection problems
* Nervousness
* Problems with memory and concentration
* Muscle loss
* Increased urination
* Depression
* Loss of energy
* Bone and hair loss

If you're having these symptoms of low testosterone, talk to your doctor. You can get your testosterone level tested. It's a simple blood test. Get the test in the morning, when the testes release more testosterone. Because a normal level of testerosterone is different for each man, it may be hard to know if you have low testorsterone it helps if you had a testosterone test earlier in your life, so you'll be able to see any change. If you do have low testosterone, think about visiting a specialized doctor, like an endocrinologist or urologist, who can work with you to treat this problem.

Menopause Facts

  • Hormone therapy is the most effective FDA approved medicine for relief of hot flashes, night sweats or vaginal dryness.
  • The female hormones estrogen and progesterone, which are important in regulating the menstrual cycle and having a successful pregnancy, are produced by the ovaries, two small oval-shaped organs found on either side of the uterus.
  • During menopause a womans body slowly produces less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone which often happens between the ages of 45 and 55 years old.
  • One recent study found that estrogen alone or estrogen plus progestin used on a sequential basis increased the risk of ovarian cancer, while estrogen plus progestin used continuously did not increase ovarian cancer risk.

Last week was my second week of being back to work in the office. Im up to 32 hours per week already, and still feeling pretty tired at the end of the day; but as long as I get to bed early enough, I seem to have enough energy to get me through the day. I have been spending this weekend recuperating, preparing for next week. I do have to go grocery shopping today, but Im more worried about road conditions than my energy level at this point. After last weeks supercold weather (well, for Por
Sleep Deprived Mom
Anyone who has a baby knows sleeping at night is a luxury. It wasn't uncommon for me to survive on 5 hours of sleep a night when my son was an infant. I was lucky that my son started sleeping through the night at 4 months but I still wasn't sleeping well. Menopause with night sweats kept me awake. I tried cutting out all coffee and tea, this helped some but I love a cup of tea in the evening so I didn't stick with it. I was working full time and could not get my mind to shut down so I could fal

Several times a week, DH cradles my head in his lap and strokes my hair until I fall asleep. (Together now: "Awwwww.")
